Building my own image library.

Built

The digital asset management market (image libraries) is outdated: we still rely on extremely expensive packages that only get pricier when you use a bit more storage or add a new user. Meanwhile, the world has changed: storage has become much cheaper, and features can be added lightning fast with AI. Time for a cheaper, better, and unlimited alternative: rokiroki.nl

I have built a complete image library. I want to use it to break into the Digital Asset Management market: software that organisations use to manage photos, videos and other files.

The idea

By creating a better, cheaper, and more flexible image library, we’re going to make a lot more companies a lot happier than they currently are.

Where I am now

The image library is built. It gave quite a few interesting insights:

- Software development remains a complex task.
- Using AI lets you get the first 80% done extremely fast.
- The last 20% can take an insanely long time: improving logic, thinking through user scenarios, keeping the interface clear.
- Claude Code on UltraCode mode gets you pretty far these days, but a human is still needed—especially for interface and logic. The tech works, but sometimes Claude forgets he should also keep things user-friendly.
- ChatGPT Astra 6 was a gamechanger! Understands a lot better what a good system should do, but burns through tokens like a turbojet, so watch carefully what you ask this hyper-intelligent assistant.

And now? Time for user tests. We’re giving away some trial subscriptions so we can see what people still need. And we have a nice promise: if you miss something, it’ll be added within a week.

I am trying a hundred things over the coming months and years, including this project. Here is why.
